Volume 55 - No 11 - December 2016
The Annual General Meeting will take place at our regular monthly meeting on December 2. Please attend to vote on a new slate of council members and a proposed by-law change. More details may be found on the website here.
A Mini Astronomy Fair will also take place at the December 2 meeting. This was a huge success last year and promises to be so again. Check it out for exhibits, discussions, instruction and fun!
RASC Observer’s Calendar 2017 – if you haven’t got yours yet, December 2 is your last chance to pick up several before Christmas. $16 each, and $30 for two. A small surcharge of $0.50 will be applied for credit card purchases.
Many thanks to Martha Farkas for organizing and implementing two recent events, the Star-B-Q and Silent Auction, which together collected $136 towards FLO renovations. Thanks also to donors: RASC National Office, Aviation Museum, Mrs. Tiggy Winkles, and Gracie’s.
As 2016 draws to a close, we rejoice to have welcomed 59 new members during the last 12 months. So many wonderful happy new faces that our mailing list has been overloaded! A nice problem to have.
Congratulations to ??? Each year our Centre recognizes outstanding member contributions as Observer, Presentation and Article of the Year. The 2016 Centre Award winners will be announced at the December meeting.
The General Assembly is fast approaching. For those planning to use the accommodations at Algonquin College please be aware the YOU MUST RESERVE BY DECEMBER 15. Reservations can be made NOW even though general GA registration is not yet available. This is due to the large numbers of ordinary tourists (ie not the astronomical variety) expected in town for the Canada 150 celebrations. More details and link to the reservations site may be found on the website here.
The National Awards Committee needs your input -- now is the time to nominate that special person in your Centre, or that unsung hero, whoever it may be. Nominations will be accepted up to and including 2016 December 31. Don't hesitate, grab a pen and jot down the details about that special person -- what makes him or her deserving of nationwide recognition. For details see the November Bulletin.
