Accommodations for the 2017 GA

Accommodations and the Canada Day 2017 Weekend

For out-of-town GA delegates, the GA team has secured a block of suites at the Residence and Conference Centre Ottawa West. These suites are located on the Algonquin College campus, adjacent to GA meeting areas.

We've reserved a block of two-bedroom suites for 2017 GA attendees at a very attractive rate $180 (plus tax) per double-room suite per night. In order to secure this special rate, we had to guarantee a minimum booking of four nights on each suite. Suites can be shared, of course.

Please note that RCC Ottawa West only accepts bookings for two-room suites, not individual rooms. We regret the inconvenience, but delegates will have to find their own suite mates (see Finding a Suite Mate below). Each room in the suite can be locked, but the bathroom and kitchenette are shared spaces.

These suites will be held for us until 2016 December 15. After that date, they'll be released and offered for rental to the general public. Our rates are locked in until 2017 March 31—but after 2016 December 15, you'll be competing with everyone else looking for a place to stay on the Canada Day weekend.

Demand for hotel accommodations in Ottawa across the Canada Day weekend is forecasted to 13-20% over capacity, and rates are expected to reach $700 per night or higher with four-night minimum bookings. Some online booking sites are even extending their search radius to beyond 70 km from Ottawa. We have been negotiating in a very difficult market, and have come up with what we consider to be the best possible deal we can get.The accommodations we've reserved are very likely the only hotel rooms you'll find for the 2017 Canada Day weekend.

Finding a Suite-Mate

GA 2017 Suite-Mate Finder

If you're looking for a suite-mate, we've set up a discussion board to help you find one. We can't guarantee you'll find a suite-mate. Nor can we guarantee that if you find a suite-mate, you're going to get along while you're at the GA. You really should make a point of getting to know your potential suite-mate before you decide to go in on a suite together.

A Parting Thought

We'd love to give you more time to mull things over, but the pressure of Canada 150 celebrations has made hotel accommodations a valuable commodity. The local hotel industry has taken advantage of that, and it's a seller's market. We encourage you to book as early as you possibly can. We'd love to see you here next Canada Day.
