50 Years of VLBI at the Algonquin Radio Observatory
Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) is a Canadian invention that affects every aspect of modern society, from surfing the Internet to finding a location using a smartphone. VLBI was invented 50 years ago at the Algonquin Radio Observatory in cooperation with the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory in Penticton. Today, Thoth and the University of Toronto have a flourishing VLBI program.
Brendan (Ben) Quine is Chief Technical Officer, Chair, and Co-founder of Thoth Technology Inc. He is also Director of the Algonquin Radio Observatory, which Thoth operates. Dr. Quine leads Thoth’s technical team. He has more than 25 years of experience in the space industry. Dr. Quine is also a professor at York University’s Lassonde School of Engineering.
