The star party scheduled for tonight, Saturday the 22nd of October, has been cancelled due to weather. Unfortunately this was the last scheduled event for 2016 but we will be back next year with many more viewing opportunities.
The 2016 star party season was one of the best ones we've ever had with well over 1,000 people getting a chance to look through the eyepiece of a telescope at all sorts of celestial objects, many of them for the first time in their lives. In addition, this year also saw several new members taking the plunge into public outreach and setting up their scopes for the viewing public.
If you haven't experienced a public star party yet, from either end of the telescope, we encourage you to give it a try in 2017. Whether it is quietly contemplating the death of a distant star, or gasping when you see the magnficent rings of Saturn with your very own eyes, it is an experience you will remember.
See you on the far side of the Sun.
